| Short historical facts
Wörth. From the 12th to the 19th century the Wörth was a very important trading post along the old salt road, leading from the Lake of Constance down the Rhine River. The castle Schlössli Wörth changed its owners several times until 1835/36 the Kanton Schaffhausen (the State) bought the estate and changed it into a well-established restaurant.
Laufenwerke. On the right side of the Water Falls, the power of water was continously used from the 12th to the 20th century (initially water-wheels). After the production of aluminium ceased in 1954, the buildings were removed and the estate was changed into parkland.
Schloss Laufen. After a troublesome time, going back to the 9th century, the medieval castle Schloss Laufen was bought by the Kanton Zürich (the State) in 1544.
The Town of Neuhausen at the Rhine Falls. In earlier days the small farming village Neuhausen and Wörth belonged to the monastery Allerheiligen Schaff-hausen and later on to the Town of Schaffhausen. During the second half of the 19th century Neuhausen at the Rhine Falls grew rapidly due to the development of important industry. |
