Characteristics of the Falls
Divided by several hard rocks the Rhine Falls are a set of three falls, called the Schaffhauser Falls, the Zürcher Falls and the Mühle Falls. The borderline of the two counties Schaffhausen (right riverside) und Zürich (left riversi-de) runs through the midst of the cataracts and river. The Rhine Falls belong to the type of cataracts, which change very little by erosion.
The oldest representation
In 1544 a woodcutting, made by Sebastian Münster, was published in a paper called Cosmographia universa-lis. It is declared as the oldest representation of the Rhine Falls.
